A Sure Moment

A young French girl wanders around an English town at night, looking for photographs to take. It may not sound like a promising start to a short (shorter than some music videos) film yet this simple but elegant piece captures a certain mood and indeed the brief encounter between two young people with style and refinement.

With confident performances from the two young leads (a very pretty Laetitia de Lafore and strangely handsome Jonny Purchase) the film both looks and feels fresh and different and the actors capture that awkward point in young adult life when uncertainty teeters slowly towards self assurance. It was written and directed with a wonderfully British deftness of touch by Lawrence Bourke (with Jamie Buckingham) of Longwater Films.
