This is awesome - a 3D animation with stacks of 2D compositing work. It is the story of a planet which over time has evolved a sophisticated culture. Of course, no society is without threat and this beautiful blue planet is on collision course with another. This short was created by Georgios Cherouvim, a supertalented technical director who does this as a... hobby!

This is done with great panache and the colours are simply gorgeous!  You will want to watch it more than once, guaranteed.
