A World I Never Made

Here is some clever experimental animation that, by my reckoning, must have taken an age to do, considering all of the pages in the book featured.  Rachel Kwak created this at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, with a brief to make poetry visual.

I think it works wonderfully and the animation techniques used here include the hand-drawn elements as well as cut outs, stop motion and replacement animation. The animation is based on AE Housman’s World I Never Made and the music is Eon Blue Apocalypse by Tool.  Here is part of the poem.

And how am I to face the odds
Of man’s bedevilment and God’s?
I, a stranger and afraid
In a world I never made.
