I Just Wanna F*ckin' Dance 2026

If you are new to this song and accompanying video(s), then I could ask where you have been or I could just let you sit back and take in the awesome experience with completely fresh eyes.  This, of course, is not the first version of I Just Wanna F*ckin' Dance to be put out there (as it were – and it is very, very out!) but it probably won’t be the last.  This may well be the best so far, though, at least according to the comments on YouTube.

The song is from Jerry Springer: The Opera and was sung by the character Shawntel. As you can guess by the lyrics, she shows her need to escape her everyday existence by having a good old dance – something which I have certainly done in the past even though I toe-tap more often than boogie these days.  Note to self – go dancing.  Anyway, Shawntel expresses this desire in quite a forthright manner and this song soon became... iconic. In its first West End production in London, Alison Jiear played the part of Shanwtel and it is her amazing voice that you can hear on this track (it was produced by Marius de Vries and Wayne G for the Heaven Nightclub Pride celebrations back in 2002).  Goodness me, has it been that long, already?

The video is created by Manny Patel who worked on the original version in the early 2000s and has continued to refine it through later remixes.  I think you will agree that this year’s is a vintage offering!  It's a glorious mashup. More movies and more icons than ever before appear, including Elphaba from Wicked among others.  Can you name all of the clips included? If so, you are way more culture savvy than me, but I enjoyed the fact that some of the old favorites are still included. No one puts Julie/Maria in a corner, after all. Thank you, Manny.

To Boldly Go Where Everybody Knows Your Name: Cheers Collides with Star Trek TNG

Sometimes, something comes along that is so blissfully silly that you have to watch it several thousand times. Hyperbole aside, Picard Looking’s new video imagines a universe where two great TV shows collide: Cheers and Star Trek TNG.  Of course, this mashup demands an amazing intro and this does not disappoint.  Rather than creating something completely new, the decision was taken to stay with the Cheers intro but to warp the lyrics and visuals to fit the Star Trek universe.  Apparently, it took weeks to get the lyrics right and then even more time to create the accompanying images. 

The result is really very clever.  I particularly liked the sight of Worf attempting to furtively down a Romulan ale without security confiscating it. The commenters on YouTube have already made some great points.  One has mentioned “Saavik was already there so I accepted a Trek “crossover” the whole time” while another adds “Don't forget Dr. Frasier Crane was a Captain on TNG episode”.  If only DS9’s Morn had made a sly appearance, I could have died happy.

Picard Looking – thank you, thank you, thank you. You have given the world something it didn’t know that it wanted or needed.  Live long and (drunkenly) prosper!

Star Wars Classical Painting Mashups

Graphic designer Leaf Scott has created a wonderful set of Star Wars mashups.  Taking the works of some of the world’s most renowned painters, Leaf has placed a selection of Star Wars characters in to the world of classical oil paintings.  Above we have Yoda in Alexandre-François Desportes’ Landscape with a Dog.

How the Grand Master of the Jedi Order might react to replacing a dog in this painting is anyone’s guess.  However, you can only imagine that Yoda would be as pragmatic as ever.  He might say something along the lines of ‘always two there are, no more, no less. A master and a, erm, dog.”

A young girl, frightened and alone save for her small animal companions, comes across a strange blue box in a forest clearing.  She is wary of the this new addition to the woodland but senses that inside there could be something or someone wonderful: perhaps she will find more questions than answers but she is still drawn towards it....

Hang on... Snow White and the Tardis? Wait a second, Ariel, the Little Mermaid and the Tardis? What's going on here?

Cheese Trouble: When Wallace and Gromit met the Minions!

If the minions were suddenly to get peckish for some cheese, where do you think they should go to acquire their portions?  Animator Fabrice Mathieu believes they would probably make a bee-line (or should that be cheese-line) to the home of Wallace and Gromit.  After all, if anyone is going to have enough cheese for the minions, it will probably be them.  They may not be so keen to have their cheese stolen, however!  Don’t worry so much about how exactly Monsieur Fabrice has done this, just enjoy the guilty pleasure of this mashup with a cup of tea and a slice or two of Wensleydale.

Hollywood Zombies

This new movie imagines a Hollywood overrun by a zombie virus, where all of your favorite stars are turned in to the living dead and stalk the world in search of flesh. Well, sounds like a great idea but this is a fake trailer by the super-talented Fabrice Mathieu.

Once more, Fabrice has put his very clever film editing techniques in to full-throttle – I for one would pay to see this movie!

TS: Terminators - The Sequel You Always Secretly Really Wanted

Are you fed up with Terminator sequels that don’t quite “cut the mustard”.  Well, fear not as Fabrice Mathieu is here with his own – and it turns out to be quite the tribute to Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger into the bargain.  The plot?  In the future John Connor scrambles Skynet’s mainframe meaning that all the T-800s are given a new target – the other T-800s.  As well as using footage from all of the Terminator maovies, Mathieu also mashes it up with bits of Hellboy, Jurassic Park and Zombieland – to name but a few.  The result is pretty seamless – can you see where a clip from one film ends and another begins?  Good luck – but enjoy too!

Men in Blues – The Blues Brothers meet the Men in Black

Agent J of the MIB is in prison. He swindled Aliens while on the job. Today he is released for a new mission. However, the Aliens are waiting for him!

This is another fantastic mashup from the incredibly talented Fabrice Mathieu.  Will Agent J succeed?  Well, you will have to watch this remarkable mashup to discover that.  Have fun!

Skywalker vs Starkiller: A Star Wars Mashup

What might have happened if Luke Skywalker and R2D2 had been whisked through a wormhole, arriving 30 years in to the future.  Before them lies the Starkiller – already under attack from the resistance – and a huge battle lies ahead.  You may well ask what on Tatoine is going on but fear not.  This is another of Fabrice Mathieu’s amazing Star Wars mashups.  Let’s just hope the studio executives don’t see this and start getting ideas..!

Now We Know Why the Daleks Always Fail (and Other Stories)

Doctor Who fans regularly scratch their heads and wonder why a force such as the daleks always seems to be beaten.  Well, now we know.  It seems that the genetic structure of the original beasts of Skaro has been somewhat usurped by that of another life form – the minions.  It seems only right, considering their attempts to do nasty things with our DNA to enhance their own. It doesn’t stop there, however. Their casings have now become multiple rather than single residences.  I guess it’s more fun that way.

Darth by Darthwest

If you have woken up this morning with an almost compulsive need to watch a George Lucas Alfred Hitchcock mashup then look no further.  Director, screenwriter, operator and editor Fabrice Mathieu has come up with this North by Northwest and Star Wars mashup which re-imagines the famous scene where Cary Grant gets fired on by a crop-duster – except it’s not a crop-duster anymore.  Enjoy!

Master of Suspense: A New Hitchcock Movie

Perhaps this was only a matter of time.  However, director, screenwriter, operator and editor Fabrice Mathieu has done it with great panache.  Alfred Hitchcock was renowned for appearing slyly in his own movies and here Mathieu has stitched Hitch’s appearances from 30 films and trailers and made them in to a murder mystery which tells its own tale.  Add a new sound design, mixed with eerie tones of the music of Bernard Herrmann and you get this. Joy.

Sci-fi Fantasy Mashup Tattoo Design Supreme!

A friend of artist Larry Wentzel (aka Wild Guru Larry) commissioned him to mash up his favorite science fiction and fantasy icons into a single design. This will serve as the source of inspiration for a forthcoming tattoo. I would quite like to see the finished tattoo - I imagine that this is to go on his friend's back?

If you want to work out who is who and what is what in the design for yourself, don’t read on! However, on the top half we have: (clockwise) Tardis (Doctor Who), Millenium Falcon (Star Wars), Planet Express spaceship (Futurama), Tesla coil, U.S.S. Enterprise (Star Trek: reboot), Serenity (Firefly) over the Neil DeGrasse Tyson's Cosmos nebula.

Midway is the Creation of Adam (thank you Michelangelo) but with Adam as an android, both of them reaching for the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything (The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy) entwined by the One Ring (Lord of the Rings).

The Lower half depicts the following: on the left, two sparrows tow a coconut (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) with tractor beams to English shores while a cyclopean pyramid (Steve Jackson Games) looks on in bemusement. In the center, Vault boy (Fallout) gives his approval atop Cthulhu (Call of Cthulhu) scowling in a highly disapproving manner. On the right, Targaryan dragon and Lannister lion claw at each other while the Stark direwolf and the Night's Watch crow square off (Game of Thrones).

What is Cinema? The Cinema of 2012

This has been called a poignant and inspirational narrative on being human and I must say I agree.  If you are a cinema fanatic you will find this compilation of last year’s movies something to sit back and revel in (even if you are not what could be described as a fanatic, I think you will find this rewarding).  The amount of care and thought that has been put in to this project by its creator, Jorge Gonzalez Diaz is quite astounding.

Diaz describes it as a brief glimpse of the enigmatic, ephemeral and yet perpetual, nature of cinema. Yes, all of that – except perhaps the brief part!  Go and make yourself a beverage of your choice, load a few snacks up around whatever device you are watching this on – and revel.

(S)he's Right Behind Me, Isn't (S)he?

This has happened to a lot of people. It may well have happened to you. It has certainly happened to me. If you are an innocent here, then take this great mashup by Plot Point Productions as a piece of visual advice: never badmouth someone with your back to the door through which they may enter. It doesn’t have to be a door, either, as you will see.

This is a great collection of those moments when someone says something about someone else and that person is right behind them.  It takes in a number of films: Miss Congeniality, City Slickers and Goldeneye to name but a few. TV shows are also well represented, with Supernatural, Justice League and Crossing Jordan among others. What is that German word again? Ah yes, schadenfreude...

The Pre-Mortem One-Liner

We all enjoy James Bond’s post-mortem one-liners even though we have been expecting them for decades and each new one doesn't really get much better than the last.  Somewhat overshadowed, it seems, are the pre-mortem one-liners – that pithy remark or comment made just before delivering the final blow or gun shot or laser blast to the arch enemy of the movie (or just one of the baddies).  Plot Point Productions have put that right with this montage of one-liners that happen just before someone gets their comeuppance.

There are what you might call the usual suspects here, Clint, Bruce, Samuel and Arnold along with relative newcomers like Gerald. There are also one or two which might surprise you. Plus there are variations on a theme – perhaps "[place a verb in the imperative here] THIS!" being my favorite with a number of contributions shown here in all their gory glory.

And – hurrah! – as well as the pre-mortem liner, the last part of this video shows us the mortem too.  I suspect this may be the highest body count Kuriositas may have ever hosted (and apologies to those of you who don't like extreme words, there are a few of those in here too!).

All You Need is Love

You will find most of the scariest movie monsters and villains in this video mashup, all strung together by whoispablo. From the Gremlins, Aliens, and Predators to the more down to earth monsters like Norman Bates, they are all here. 

Holding this feast of the frightening together is All You Need is Love by The Beatles.  Somewhere in here, almost guaranteed, you will find your favorite horror movie. The lip synching may not be 100% but this is the result of many a day's hard work.

The City Is London

While we wait, here in London, for the evening to come so we might witness the mind blowing spectacular that will be (we hope!) the Olympics opening ceremony, here is something to keep us occupied in the meantime. The good people at Ithaca Audio have really outdone themselves this time, bringing together 26 London musicians, films and TV shows in this remarkable mashup.

I am going to list them all below if you want to check out who and what is in here. I have to say though, that this is simply outstanding done with panache of the highest order not to mention a great sense of humor. Plus, despite the fact he has been gone quite a while now, Freddie Mercury can still bring a tear to my eye.

This is very short and very silly. It was created for the Australian TV show, Hamish & Andy by animator John Earle.

He admits that this was one the most fun projects he had worked on in a while and the result is very cool.

The idea came about after a visit to an LA film studio that specializes in producing low-budget versions of hit movies. Hamish & Andy were inspired to create their own “Mockbuster”. In a mash-up of James Cameron’s Avatar and the arcade game console Atari, RK Productions commissioned Earle to bring Hamish’s vision to life.
