That Walter White Mask Sells on Ebay for $41,400

Bryan Cranston may have had no idea what he was starting back at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He ambled through the crowds in that Walter White mask, specially made for the occasion by Denver based artist Landon Meier. Now the mask, autographed by the actor has been sold on Meier’s ebay page for a substantial sum - $41,400.00 to be exact. How much? You may well do a double take.

Filminute - Time is Running Out for Your Submission!

Filminute an International one-minute film festival and is in to its 8th edition this year.  There will be some very exciting finalists this year, if last year’s entrants are to go by. Altogether there were 25 one-minute short films and animations competing for the title with 15 countries represented.  You can see the 5 we selected at Kuriositas here - the overall winner, Chop Chop (above) was one we put forward..

If you are interested in joining in the fun then there is still time to submit your short movie – the deadline is August 20. The shortlisted films will be subject to both a public vote and a review by an international jury - luminaries from the film, arts, literature, and advertising fields.  Here at Kuriositas, we can’t help but join in – we will be showcasing our 5 favorites from this year’s line-up at the beginning of September.   Click the picture to get to the website and make your entry!

Appearance - Charlie Higson Gets More Than He Bargained For at a Book Signing

Charlie Higson became well known in the UK for his comedy acting in series such as The Fast Show yet he is known to a newer audience as the author of the Young Bond novels.  He has also written a popular if gruesome series called The Enemy, a series of zombie books for teenagers, effectively (would make a very good replacement to Harry Potter at the cinema) where everyone over 16 becomes undead and the kids are left to fight off the hordes.

It seems he is not quite ready to give up the comedy, however.  To begin with I thought that Appearance was simply that – a short created to show him engaging young people about his writing as a British school.  However, it is something a little more… when he is accosted by a pair of sullen yet spooky teenagers the truth about his writing career comes out.

Charlie Higson’s fifth installment in The Enemy cycle of novels is due out this year.

Mondo Curio Celebrates 10,000 Hours of Photomontage

Mondo Curio is run by photographer Paul Cook. Cook takes photographs and then manipulates them to challenge our perceptions of what is original, investigating balance and equilibrium as a holistic aesthetic.

The website is now celebrating 10,000 hours of Photomontage (which translates in to three years!) and Cook has arranged an exhibition at St Andrew’s Church in Toronto to celebrate the occasion.  Take a look at wonderful photomanipulations at the website or visit the Facebook Page. The exhibition will run from May 1 and through the entire month.

Oh, Super

Superman always saves the day – of course, we get that.  Yet what happens once the man of steel has finished his day’s work and retreats back to the Fortress of Solitude for a little rest and relaxation?

He has learned his lesson in the past that it is not in the world’s best interests if he takes his current human love interest back there – somehow it always seems to end in tears... so he has come up with an alternative. There must be some way for him to have company after he has counted his new Twitter followers!

This  funny and very contemporary (notice the John Carter reference) animated short is by director and animator Michael Roberts and is very much a personal fan film.  Created in After Effects and Photoshop, it’s a hoot! Plus it’s a pretty good piece of advertising for the forthcoming Man of Steel reboot next year
