Masterpiece

You might well understand this if you have a friend who is an artist.  In this short film by DessyMak Productions, the artist in question invites his non-artist friends for a sneak preview of the project he has completed for his university master’s degree.  It isn’t quite what they expect and they try to find ways to interpret the masterpiece they see before them.  This short movie is as much about the nature of friendship than that of modern art and has a low-key charm all of its own.  Masterpiece was written and directed by Runyararo Mapfumo.

Starry Night - Van Gogh's Masterpiece as Interactive Animation

It’s one of the most famous paintings on the planet so you may well ask what more could be done with one of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous paintings. Never one to leave a question hanging in the air Petros Vrellis has created this interactive version of Starry Night.

Purists would argue that there was absolutely nothing to add to this most sublime of paintings – and they would be right.  Yet this is almost tangential to the original – or at least so distanced that the onlooker does not see this as a mischievous 21st century violation.  It allows one to do, perhaps, what one has always wished to do – to interact with the painting. Also, the sound responds to the flow. The animation was made with openframeworks.
