Very Little Stars

Jaw, meet floor. This is one of the most astonishingly good timelapse films you will see for a long time.  Created by Timelapse Inc, the short was photographed and edited by Ben Wiggins with the accompanying music being The Alley by DeVotchKa. Very Little Stars showcases the newest development in timelapse the adopted name for which at the moment is hyperlapse.

What is a hyperlapse? You may well ask.  Essentially it involves moving the camera while still shooting at a speed normally associated with timelapse.  It’s a new technique and one that has been evolving recently – what Wiggins does here is move it on to the next level by making these movements huge.  Sit back, go full screen and if your machine will take it, switch to HD. Remember to hold your chin in your hand to avoid the jaw/floor moment.

In Full Bloom

Where Are We Going?


David Coiffier of Pixel’s Revenge has done it again with this outstanding new time-lapse video, filmed all over the world. It is a little different in both terms of tone and gravity from his slow motion soda explosion we featured a few months ago, but if anything it is more engaging.  Take a tour around the world and glimpse places both strange and familiar shot in a way that engages and opens the sense of wonder inside!  True, the film may ask more questions than it answers. Perhaps that is why it is called Where Are We Going?

Some places are obvious, but you may be scratching your head about others. Just in case you were wondering, the places are Paris, NYC, Petites Dalles, Normandy (cliffs and beach), Martinik (clouds), Mare island, New Caledonia, Queyras, Alps, Tuscany (clouds), La Clusaz, Alps, (clouds sea),- Ladakh, India, and Las Campanas, Chili (crazy night sky).

8 Hours in Brooklyn


This is quite an amazing piece of film.  Shot by Next Level Pictures over an eight hour period in Brooklyn, it shows the sights of the area in great detail and from some very unusual angles too. It is this sort of footage which I think will be used by historians in future years to get a real flavour of the place.

There are some really unusual camera angles in here – it is all beautifully shot.  One segment, at the end, which will remain with me for a long time, however, could have been shot anywhere.  The sight of a tattooist’s needle going in to a man’s flesh in slow motion is something to be seen to be believed!

El Caminito del Rey - Spain's Highest Man Made Pathway

The Spanish have a head for heights.  Yet even they must shiver a little at the sight of El Caminito del Rey (or The King’s Little Pathway in English and it is located, like Ronda in Málaga. Hydroelectric power plants were built at the nearby falls at the beginning of the twentieth century and getting building materials to them became an issue.  The result was the pathway which also doubled up as an inspection platform for the channel below.  Taking four years to build it was opened to much pomp and ceremony in 1905 and now wonder.  It is quite a feat of engineering.
