Fun Facts About Google

If you are researching the history of Google for a high school presentation – or just want to know learn more about the history of the online behemoth without reading anything, then this motion infographic should be just up your street.  As you can embed Vimeo videos with ease in to a PowerPoint presentation this would make a great addition to your slideshow.  Of course, it only tells the bright and shiny side to Google’s history (like the company’s on-going commitment to green energy) but is full of interesting facts such as Google’s assets are so humungous that they could give each and every person on the planet a free trip to the movies.

Robots

Can a Google search give us any psychological insight in to what people think of something? That is certainly a subject for someone's Doctoral thesis, if it hasn't already been done. Natalia Buckley, a design student at Goldsmith's College, University of London, has certainly given us insight in to what people think about robots in this short animation.

What she does is enter the word robots and then suffix it with the letters of the alphabet.  Interesting enough but this gets more so when she adds first the word are and then the words will in to the search.

You may want to pause this more than once (as I did) to see what results she got!  Going by the results we have very mixed feelings about our robot friends.  Is there a collective noun for schizophrenia?

Dead Girl's Corpse on Google Maps

It might have caused those Google Maps users with a sensitive nature more than a few palpitations coming across this sight. Visitors looking for directions in the suburbs of the English town of Worcester (more like curtain twitching electronic styly) have been coming across the above image of, apparently, a child's dead body lying in the streets.

Concerned (maybe panicked) users called the police to investigate.  After all, this is a green and pleasant land and you don't usually expect dead bodies in the street (well, not before the watershed anyway).  All was well in the end, however.  A few enquiries by the boys in blue determined that the little girl had been playing with a friend, had slipped and then decided to play dead to give her chum a mild coronory.  She ended up giving one to the neighbors instead.

You may say that the UK is a land of curtain twitchers and it seems truer than ever now we have moved fully in to the digital age.  E-curtains - now there's an idea.
