Brain Divided

This is dedicated to any women out there who have said these words while on a first date - and any men who have heard them:  What is wrong with you?  After watching Brain Divided you will come to realise that there is a perfectly adequate and reasonable explanation. Perhaps.

Brain Divided was created by three animation students at Ringling, Josiah Haworth, Joon Shik Song and Joon Soo Song.  Although the animated short makes no attempt to play around with the long established gender stereotypes of the 'toon universe (one could almost say it revels in them), I did, however, find this very amusing in an old fashioned kinda way!

What Not to Eat Before the First Date

One of the rules of a successful first date is don’t eat curry or garlic or, especially, herring beforehand.  However, there always has to be one who ignores the rule and this young man discovers that his fishy breath destroys everything in its path as he makes his way to meet his young lady.

Created in collaboration by Klomp with the Netherlands Film Fund, SNS Reaal and Pathé this screened in front of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in all Dutch Pathé cinemas. The Dutch have all the fun, it seems!

What Can You Do When Your Date Turns Out to be a Sloppy Eater?

We have all had first dates that have gone wrong but hopefully nothing like this – when the object of your desire turns out to be something of a messy eater – to say the very least.

Wasted Night was directed by Joseph Catté and starring Pauline Helly and Joseph Catté who no doubt could not resist the fun that must have been involved in the making of this.

Drawn

The difficult first date.  Often it’s hard to know where to begin, to start to get to know that mysterious other sat opposite to you.

Perhaps a common interest will draw the two together? Yet when it comes to a man and a woman often the routes that are taken can be quite different. A leap of the imagination shows us that whereas it may not always be a case of Mars and Venus the genders can have a very different take on the same planet!

This charming animated short is the work of a number of students at The Animation School in South Africa – Armand Filmalter, Theresa Hargitai, Alexandre Salomon, Simon Van Der Merwe, Stephen Van Wyk and Michelle White with music by Craig Ormond.

9 ½ Minutes, Short Film Starring David Tennant

This may be a David Tennant acting role that you haven’t come across before. This short was made in 2002, three years before Tennant landed the role of Doctor Who.  It tells the story of Charlie (Tennant) and Heather (Zoe Telford) who are on a blind date but this isn’t quite your average boy meets girl. They go from introduction, seduction, relationship, boredom, to break up - in 9 1/2 minutes.

If you are scratching your head wondering where you have seen Zoe Telford before, it could be that you have seen her in the role as Sarah, a doctor, in the BBC series Sherlock as the pretty love interest of Dr. Watson. 9 ½ Minutes was written and directed by Josh Appignanesi and Misha Manson-Smith.
