Wing

There was once a lonely, lonely creature called Wing. He had been given that name because, unlike all the other forest dwelling things who possessed them, he only had a single wing rather than a pair. He was bullied by everyone, the crows in particular.

Yet there is always hope – and this is the story of how he builds a catapult to escape his woodland prison.

Produced by a group of students at one of the most dedicated and celebrated animation institutions in the world, The Animated Workshop (in Denmark) this is yet another example of their amazing undergraduate work.

Nebula

A young girl, alone in the forest, has a mysterious encounter with a strange creature.  This magical and beautifully produced animated short was created by a very talented group of students from Gobelins: Camille Andre, Marion Bulot, Clément Doranlo, Myriam Fourati, Jonghyun Jungboix, Alexis Kerjoss and Sarah Simon.  Again, a superb piece from one of the consistently best animation schools on the planet.

Frankenstorm Deposits Franken-Creature on Washington DC

It may have turned the city in to a ghost town but Hurricane Sandy seems to be depositing a whole new set of inhabitants on to Washington DC. Flickr photographer Photo Phiend discovered this rather slimy looking specimen (should be at home with the Washington politicos then) on the sidewalk.

He says ‘I'm guessing this is a tadpole or some such, but it could be the advance wave of the attack of the Frankenfish, taking advantage of Frankenstorm to stage their little Franken-uprising. Hard to see here, but there do appear to be teeth in that mouth.’

Shudder. Well, anyone out there know what it is? It looks to our resident crypto-zoologist like a squid of some sort. Any suggestions?

Not to worry you, but extra brownie points for those of you who recognize the film from which the following quote was taken: Look, you fools, you're in danger! Can't you see?! They're after you! They're after all of us! Our wives, our children, everyone! THEY'RE HERE, ALREADY! YOU'RE NEXT!

The Ambassador

Another picture from the Flickr Photostream of Seriykotik1970 – this one very much in HP Lovecraft mode.  One of the most influential horror writers of the twentieth century (bar the fact that the influence came very much post mortem) Lovecraft’s stories are full of strange goings on.  He is perhaps most famous for his Cthulhu Mythos cycle.  This picture, entitled The Ambassador, allows us to imagine a whole new undiscovered Lovecraft novel!

Yeasayer - Bizarre Pet Video for Madder Red

Brooklyn based experimental rockers Yeasayer have released a bizarre new music video, which stars actress Kristen Bell (you will know her from Veronica Mars and Forgetting Sarah Marshall). The video is for the track Madder Red from the band's most recent album, Odd Blood.  And boy, is it odd.

You have probably experienced somethjing akin to his yourself.  Any of you have had pets will know the pain and anguish you experience when the poor little thing gets ill - or (heaven forbid) they die.  This tracks just such a day for the character, a jobbing actress played by Bell (and we loved the Spielberg lookeylike at the casting session).

However, the pet isn't a common or garden dog or cat.  It is something much more bizarre - the kind of pet you might expect David Lynch to have had when he was a boy and looks something like ET might after being in a microwave for about ten minutes.

So, if you like your pop a little pyschedelic - enjoy.  If not, to quote Crimewatch - don't have nightmares! Oh and if you don't mind making a comment, would you like a pet like this?
