The Boy Who Rode the Wind

A simple story can have so many layers, it’s sometimes difficult to keep up.  Whatever layer you get from The Boy Who Rode the Wind, this animated short by Spaghetti Tree Productions is a rewarding watch, but, if, like me, you are easily brought to tears, then have your handkerchief ready.  That makes this sound like a very drab watch, but honestly, the workmanship that has gone into this is nothing short of astounding (using tools such as Higgsfield, Adobe, Suno, Claude, Davinci) and I love the use of colour in this short.  Now, yes, this makes the animation something of a hybrid, but the company’s blurb on YouTube reassuringly tells us that their processes keep “human intent and the animator's touch firmly at the center”.

The story, written by Tanem Davidson, is about a boy and his father – in that particular state of limbo that bereavement often brings and the necessary urge to carry on living (in fact to celebrate life) that hopefully will emerge at some point in the process of grieving.  It’s a lovely story, and honestly made my day.  I do wonder if this short represents the coming together of AI and human “talents”.  Who can say – perhaps leave your own thoughts in the comments.
