Moving Day: A Charming Animated Short About Change, Courage and New Beginnings

As a moving truck veers through woodland roads, a few boxes tumble from its back.  In one is  a pet mouse, thrown into a world it has never known – one with, for example, a sky that throws down soft globules of water…  He has a typical reaction for a city dweller thrown into an unknow forest.  At first terrified, the mouse is drawn out by a friendly ladybird who shows him around a little until he begins to find his feet.  Yes, that’s it.  That’s all there is to this animated short.  But it does it in such a gently entrancing way that the minutes fly by, and we’re caught up in the situation.   As such, it’s a lovely little metaphor for the unexpected difficulties and changes that we experience through life’s journey – and how we can overcome them with a little spirited tenacity.

This was Ye-won Kim’s graduation project, which she created during her time at Hongik University (홍익대학교) in South Korea.  The comments on YouTube may put it better than I have.  One says “Simple, profound, and full of tenderness.
