The Best Trip of the Summer

I don’t know if you have kids but the major problem is the summer break is keeping them entertained.  Keeping them entertained for free is another story altogether.  One of the best places you can take children and which always constitutes an annual ritual in this household is the British Museum and yes, you’ve guessed it – it is free.

The Museum still looks a little old fashioned and dare I say stuffy on the outside but when you get in you are immediately transported as far away from a stuffy Edwardian museum as you can imagine.   The heart of the museum is called the Great Court and it is quite remarkable in its own right.  It was redeveloped and opened in 2001 at about the same time that entrance to the museum became free.

From here you can branch off in to virtually and historical territory that you can care to imagine.  If the kids fancy an afternoon with the ancient Egyptians then it is only a short walk from the Great Court to find yourself in a world of hieroglyphs and mummies.

There is also an African section which the kids adore – they draw pictures of the masks that they see in there and then try to reproduce them when they get home.  It may be  messy but it keeps them quiet. A trip to the British, as they call it, is always a highlight of the summer.

Of course, once we have finished at the museum there are a number of hungry mouths to feed.  This is when the kids eat free deal at Pizza Hut comes in extremely handy.  After a morning at the museum you can get an adult lunchtime buffet for yourself and get your child a free 2 course kids meal or lunchtime buffet which includes pizza, pasta and salad.

As a summer offer it was great but now it has been extended until 9 January 2001 I am even happier.  You can Find more details about the offer at http://bit.ly/a1DhgJ.
